Aim: To learn about a saturated solution and how to make crystals.
Definition of solution:
A liquid mixture, when something is dissolved into a liquid (eg: sugar in water)
Definition of saturated:
Having or holding as much as can be absorbed of something (when no more sugar or borax can be dissolved into the water)
In groups of three you will make three different types of crystals and compare the results.
Borax Crystals
Materials
1) Borax 5 table spoon
2) Cup
3) 3 pipe cleaners
4) Peg
5) Spoon
Process
Step 1: One person goes and collects the borax and half a cup of hot water.
Step 2: Stir till saturated.
Step 3: Collect the pipe cleaners and the peg.
Step 4: Shape the pipe cleaners into a star.
Step 5: Then clip the peg onto the pipe cleaners.
Step 6: Then submerge the star into the borax.
Sugar Crystals
Materials
1) Sugar 5 table spoons
2) Cup
3) Pipe Cleaner
4) Peg
5) Spoon
Process
Step 1: One person goes and collects the sugar and half a cup of hot water.
Step 2: Stir till saturated.
Step 3: Collect a pipe cleaner and a peg.
Step 4: Stir till all the sugar is dissolved.
Step 5: Then clip the peg onto the pipe cleaner.
Step 6: Then submerge the pipe cleaner into the sugar.
Salt Crystals
Materials
1) Salt 3 table spoon
2) Cup
3) Pipe Cleaner
4) Peg
5) Spoon
Process
Step 1: One person goes and collects the salt and half a cup of hot water.
Step 2: Stir till saturated.
Step 3: Collect a pipe cleaner and a peg.
Step 4: Stir till all the salt is saturated.
Step 5: Then clip the peg onto the pipe cleaner.
Step 6: Then submerge the pipe cleaner into the salt.

To support my learning I ask you to comment as follows:
1. Something positive - something you like about what I have shared.
2. Thoughtful - A sentence to let us know you actually read/watched or listened to what I had to say
3. Something thoughtful - how have you connected with my learning? Give me some ideas for next time or ask me a question.
