The Piano

WALT:write a descriptive piece of writing from the old man's point of view as he recalls his memories.

The Piano

Good bye said my wife sweetly as I looked into her kind eyes. I watch her as she closes her eyes for the last time. A month past since my wife’s funeral I play her piano, everyday I play her favorite song. I remember her she was a kind hearted person. She would always help those in need. I remember the war she waited for me to come back I was never there for her. I could never help, I could never do things right and that got my best friend killed.

I play the piano more and I feel like she is right here next to me. I can see her dancing around the room as I play the piano. She sits and holds my hands I tell I miss her and that I’m alone without her. She starts playing the piano with me “I’m sorry” I say. “I was never there for you and now you're gone” I say. “It wasn’t your fault it was no one’s fault” she said. She hugs me I look at her as she slowly disappears.

I carry on playing the more I play the more I remember, the war. I fought for my country and in return my best friend Brandon got killed. I didn’t follow orders I went the other way Brandon took a shot for me. I was supposed to die not him I never forgave myself after that day.

I was about to stop playing the piano when I see my son George on his 7th birthday he always wanted a horse to ride.  I see him running around the room sadly George died with a heart disease at the age 27. He stops running then under the piano came Gabe George’s son. “It’s ok grandpa” he said “I miss dad and grandma too”.  “You were always a smart kid” I said he giggled. He started playing the piano with me and from then I would start teaching kids how to play piano. Gabe is my first student I know life will be hard without my wife and George but life moves on.
